While Jellycats and Sonny Angels are common collectables nowadays, math teacher Jennifer Brady has developed her own collection of various forms of Snoopy merchandise.

Her love of Snoopy began at a young age. She grew up in Santa Rosa, the same place Charles Schulz — Snoopy’s creator — lived. His influence led to the creation of museums and statues dedicated to Snoopy and the Peanuts gang.

“The ice skating rink that we always went to is called Snoopy’s Home Ice,” Brady said.

In addition, as Brady was growing up, her mother played tennis with Charles Schulz’s wife. She thinks that her background gave way to the passion she has today.

“I don’t think I would be as big a fan if I had grown up outside of that area,” Brady said.

Brady has been building this collection for nine years and has acquired a plethora of Snoopy items, including stuffed animals, mugs, socks, a luggage tag, a pencil holder shaped like Snoopy’s house and four blankets.

“I don’t really buy anything for myself because I know somebody’s gonna get me [something], and I never know what it is,” Brady said. “The wood [Snoopy] that’s up on the board — an old friend of mine gave me that for Christmas.”

Since anyone in Brady’s classes uncovers her love for Snoopy pretty quickly, she explains that a majority of her collection is actually from students who have gifted her merchandise over the years.

“Some of my students, they’ll go up to Santa Rosa, and they’ll go to the museum, and then they’ll bring me back something. It’s sort of a connection piece,” Brady said.

One of her favorite pieces is a dancing Snoopy that sits on her desk, which provides her comfort in the classroom.

“The kids all know that I use it if they’re getting overwhelming for me. I just push [Snoopy] and he dances,” Brady said. “He [gets put out] around Thanksgiving, he stays through the first six weeks, and then I’ll pack him up until next year.”
