New buildings are coming to Branham.
During the Campbell Union High School District (CUHSD) board meeting last Thursday, the Board of Trustees voted to approve implementation plans for Measure P bond construction.
Passed in 2024, Measure P will raise $474 million for repairing, upgrading and modernizing CUHSD school sites and technology over the next 20 years. The estimated budget for improvements to Branham’s campus is $78 million.
Gabriel Altamirano, the executive director of facilities for CUHSD, and bond program manager Nathan Thome presented about plans to renovate Branham’s campus in the upcoming years and recent revisions.
The presentation comes after months of planning in collaboration with HMC Architects and Facilities Advisory Committee meetings with community members across schools.

A new two-story building will replace the current K and L buildings, which contain undersized classrooms. The new construction will house a double-height academic center and 12 science labs with a shared storage space as the current science classrooms in buildings S and J do not fit teachers’ needs.

Building T, which currently houses the tech room, and the canopy will be demolished as well in order to expand the quad and connect it to the new building. During construction, teachers in the K and L buildings will shift to interim portable classrooms on the practice field.
Additionally, plans to build seven new tennis courts behind the football field are being cancelled due to complications with the land condition and high projected construction costs.

After the presentation, Altamirano and Thome took feedback and questions from the board. In response to a question from student trustee and Branham senior Aiden Jeong, Thome said the cost for the new building will be about $1,000 per square foot, translating to approximately $1.5 million per classroom including soft costs.
More detailed design concepts will be developed next with involvement from the Facilities Advisory Committee and architects.
