In recent weeks, students have spotted geese frequently wandering throughout campus.

Additionally, two geese have built their nest on the roof of the ASB building.

Since the geese began making their home on campus, students and staff have responded with mixed opinions. Some students, like freshman Anya Desai, enjoy their presence at school.

“I haven’t got to see [the nest] up and close, but I think it’s really cool,” Desai said. “You can’t really hear anything like stomping. I’m curious if there [are] eggs in it or not. Sometimes I see geese just sitting up there in the nest.”

As the geese are discovering different parts of campus, they have been observed in areas like the pool. Teachers have to place cones around the outdoor shower area on the pool deck to avoid geese droppings for the freshmen PE classes, which are currently in their swim unit.

“I thought it was funny because it’s a new sight to see – just geese swimming around in a pool,” Desai said. “[The teachers] haven’t mentioned the geese being in the pool, but the geese were definitely around the pool, and they left some surprise [droppings] around the pool.”

However, campus supervisor Aaron Ippolito has different opinions on the birds.

“They’re messy. They stain the concrete, and one of them is actually pregnant, so the male is now standing guard over her and could attack somebody if they’re not careful,” Ippolito said.

One of the geese responded aggressively to a student who tried to pet them, according to Ippolito.

“I think the school should call animal control and see what we can do to either help or get that nest removed because something bad is about to happen,” Ippolito said.
